20 Things You Should Be Educated About Over The Ear Headphones Wireless

Best Over the Ear Headphones

Wireless headphones allow you to listen to music and podcasts without the need to connect an audio wire to your device. These headphones are ideal for public transport, at the office or at home.

Wireless over-ear cans are offered in a variety and noise cancellation capabilities. They usually come with a sleek storage case.

Soundcore Q30

These over-ears are a major upgrade from the Soundcore Life 2 of late-2018. They appear better and feel more durable and have a more polished appearance. The hinges are more secure and the soft leather ear cups have been a bit larger. They're still made of plastic, however they're more polished. You can switch the 3.5mm cord for a higher quality USB-C cable to use them with mobile Hi-Res as well as stationary players. They also have dual microphones that perform well in our tests for FaceTime, Skype, and Microsoft Teams calls.

The Soundcore app comes with a broad variety of EQ presets that can be saved and adjusted to listen to podcasts or music in the way you like. This is what sets these headphones apart from most other ANC headphones, and the Soundcore app is extremely simple to use.

When ANC is on the Q30's 40mm drivers effectively block out most of the ambient noise, and provide an extremely pleasant listening experience. They have a natural sounding signature that leans slightly to the treble side, which some may find lacking in bass response (we got better results with the Bass Booster EQ preset). You can fix this easily using the Soundcore App, which has an 8-band Equalizer.

The left earcup has the power button as well as a pairing button and USB-C charging port. The right earcup has play/pause and volume up/down buttons. By double-clicking these controls, you can skip tracks or replay the previous one. They also come with the ability to speak, so you can request to switch the mode or set an alarm. The right earcup can be covered with your hands to activate ambient mode, so that you can hear what is going on around you without taking off the headphones.

The battery life of these headphones is great as well. In our tests with ANC switched on, the Q30 ran for almost an hour longer than the other headphones. This gives you plenty of time for an extended flight or a day at the office. The included USB-C cord allows you to quickly recharge them. You'll also get a warning when the battery is getting close to empty.

Focal Bathys Wireless

Focal's Bathys Wireless are a set of high-quality headphones for over-ear use that offer both active noise cancellation and Bluetooth playback. They're designed to be an elite headphones that are great for listening to podcasts and music on the go but also sound fantastic when used to listen to audiophile music at home as well. They're a little more expensive than similar headphones, but their superior sound quality is their main selling factor.

The Focal Bathys are packed in a small attractive white box with a textured finish. It comes with all the accessories you'll need. The headphone carry case folds flat, and comes with a case, USB-C-to-USB-C cable, 1.2mm SE cable and an audio adapter.

They're powered by a decent 600mAh battery that can get you through a full day of casual listening and have an audio input for wired use. Wirelessly, they are paired via Bluetooth. You can control their functions using an app (now called Focal & Naim in the same way as English sister brand Naim’s network-aware products) or the dedicated button located on the left earcup which scrolls through ANC profiles like'silent','soft  transparent,' and full.

Using the app allows you to change various settings like the LED brightness, EQ presets including a'music profile' that is brighter and more neutral than the others and their battery life. It also lets you to choose the ANC mode and its level as well as setting an 'acoustic' environment which adjusts the sensitivity of your audio to simulate what it will sound like if it were placed in a space with different audio acoustics.

The Focal Bathys feature an incredibly bass-rich profile that gives extra warmth, punch and impact to your favorite tracks. This means that vocals and instruments can be muted, while other details such as cymbals may be less prominent than on other headphones. The headphones are also less effective at active noise cancellation, compared to other over-ears with more advanced technology, like the Sony WH1000XM5 or Apple AirPods Max.

Sony WH-1000XM5

Sony has a stellar reputation for its headphones and the WH-1000XM5 headphones are no exception. It's located at the top end of the'mainstream' over-ear headphone market, edging into the  luxury lifestyle sector where brands like Bang & Olufsen, Apple and Montblanc are a common sight. The XM5s have a premium price tag, but if you can afford it, there are few better wireless over-ear headphones out there.

The XM5s have a lot of features that make life easier for the listener, and also automate tasks that they would have to do manually. Sony's DSEE Extreme engine (which upscales compressed music to close to high-res) is included and also support for Bluetooth's LDAC technology. This allows for streaming of high-quality audio with bitrates higher than conventional Bluetooth. There's a built-in mic for making hands-free phone calls.

The XM5 headphones are no different from the previous generation of headphones from WH, in regards to noise cancellation. These headphones are among the best at reducing the continuous drones that can be heard in train and underground carriages. The XM5s are also excellent at isolating the listener from the noises of busy streets and airports.

The sound quality is also top-quality. The XM5s aren't quite as precise in the lower frequencies as the XM4, but there's a more pronounced sense of clarity and openness also. For instance the bass track on Rage Against the Machine's Bullet in the Head flexes the Sonys' muscles with real force and definition without flattening everything else. The XM5s also have the ability to provide precise and accurate bass notes in Massive Attack's Angel.

Battery life is great with up to 30 hours of listening time when ANC is on and 40 hours if it's off. That's more than enough for a weekend getaway or a long period of use.

The only drawback is that the XM5s lack any water resistance or dust resistance protection. In fact, Sony recommends that you not sweat on them or take them out in the rain. This may not be a big deal for the majority of people, but for those who spend much time in the gym or live in a humid location, it could be a major problem.

Apple AirPods Max

The Apple AirPods Max are a pair of wireless headphones over-ear that come with Bluetooth technology and noise cancellation. They have 40mm dynamic drivers designed by Apple with an audio profile that is neutral and is focused on the mids and highs without going overboard at either end of the spectrum. This makes them perfect for movies and music. They also have better sound quality when compared with other headphones.

The headphones are lightweight and comfortable on the head. The earcups are made of memory foam and covered with weaved fabric. They sit comfortably on the ears without pressing on the sides of the face. The ear cups can also be rotated and tilted to accommodate different head shapes. The spring-loaded hinges offer an incredibly firm, yet not too strong clamping force that ensures the ear cups stay in place throughout listening sessions.

You can toggle noise cancelling by pressing a small button at the top of the right earcup. It also has a pushable Jog-dial-like button, akin to the digital crown on the Apple Watch, that you can turn to control volume and press the button once, twice or thrice to playback control. Siri can be activated by pressing and pressing the button. The buttons are simple to use and well-placed however, I would like to see an option to power off or shut off the headphones when in use.  jbl headphones wireless  go into standby when removed from your ears, or if they are placed in their case. They return to life when you place them over your head.

Another cool feature is spatial audio, which makes use of the accelerometers and gyroscopes in the AirPods Max and your iPhone or iPad to figure out the direction you're going, and then repositions sounds to appear as if they're coming from these locations. This creates an immersive theater-like experience for films and videos that were recorded in 5.1, 7.1 or Dolby Atmos. The only downside is that spatial audio requires an iOS device to use it, and it won't allow you to enjoy it on other devices.

The AirPods Max are a decent pair of headphones, but I'd feel slightly smug about going into an Apple Store and spending $549 on them if I knew they'd be beaten in a year by the second-generation model. The AirPods Pro have more advanced features and a better battery performance, so it's hard to justify the extra cost for most people.
